Wallem Maritime Training Centre, Qingdao (WMTCQ)
Wallem Maritime Training Centre, Qingdao (WMTCQ), was formed in 2005 as part of
a joint venture between COSCO and Wallem Shipmanagement Ltd. Hong Kong, forming
Cosco-Wallem Ship Management Company.
WMTCQ is located within the COSCO Qingdao Workers School in Wolong Village located
in the Loashan District, Shandong Province and is also known locally as ‘COSCO Valley’.
The main function of WMTCQ is to provide ‘Value Added’ training courses for PRC
seafarers assigned to serve on Wallem, COSCO Wallem and ID-Wallem managed vessels. WMTCQ also
provides training for third party interests as required or requested. WMTCQ has
its own ISO 9001:2008 accreditation with DNV. WMTCQ is also an approved training
provider of the Swedish P&I club’s ‘Maritime Resource Management’ (MRM) training
course.
The COSCO Valley location was once a monastery and is famed for the Laoshan mineral
water provided by the local Laoshan Mountains. This area offers a tranquil setting
for learning and study without distractions.
Hotel accommodation and modern restaurant facilities are available on site provided
and administered by COSCO. A frequent bus service is also provided by COSCO into
Qingdao City centre for staff and students use.
